Smart Gate App
The remote, retired.

- Stack
- Vue, TypeScript, Capacitor, Kotlin, Swift, ESP32 / C++, AWS SST, DynamoDB, Cognito, IoT Core (MQTT), SNS
An access-control app that replaces the gate remote. Open gates, doors, garages and smart appliances over Bluetooth when you are close, or over Wi-Fi from anywhere. Shipped as Fluss+ and as Gemlink, a white-label version.
The signal path
Firmware
ESP32 firmware for the access hardware: BLE and Wi-Fi, built with Platform.io.
Transport
Local Bluetooth control, plus MQTT through AWS IoT Core for control from anywhere.
Cloud
Serverless back end built with SST on AWS: DynamoDB for users, devices and permissions, Cognito for sign-in, IoT Core to reach the devices, SNS, and a public API.
Interface
The Fluss+ app for Android and iOS: Vue + Capacitor, with native Kotlin and Swift where it counts.
Context
Gate remotes get lost, cloned and handed to people who should not have them anymore. Fluss makes the hardware that sits on the motor; Fluss+ is the product that makes it smart.
The problem
Give property owners real control over who can open what, and when, without making a gate any slower to open than pressing a button.
What I built
- The database, APIs and IoT messaging layer, from scratch: DynamoDB, Cognito, IoT Core and SNS, composed with SST.
- Proper user management: owners invite people, assign access per device, and revoke it instantly.
- A dual-path connection: Bluetooth when you are in range for speed and reliability, Wi-Fi when you are not.
- A API with account API keys, so customers can plug the devices into their own platforms. The Home Assistant integration runs on it.
- Releases to the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery, for Fluss+ and Gemlink both.
Outcome
Over 20,000 people open their gates, doors and garages from their phones: 10,000 on Fluss+ and 10,000 on Gemlink.
